About our store

We are two sisters, Sarah and Eleanor, who are passionate about delicious fresh healthy food. The shelves of our little store are filled with wonderful natural products: organic wines, farmhouse cheeses, artisan breads, local organic vegetables, locally-produced sauces, jams, honey, nuts, seeds, whole grains, cold-pressed oils. We have a deliciously healthy weekday vegetarian and vegan sandwich menu that changes daily to match the availability of seasonal produce.

We love everything about food – making, baking, cooking, eating, sharing. We really think about what we put on our shelves and each product is carefully selected to reflect our ethos. We strongly believe that delicious nutritious food makes life so much better. We are delighted to be able to bring our ideals of local, natural, organic and sustainable living to our little store here in Kilkenny.

About Eleanor

Ever since she can remember, Eleanor has been interested in food and natural health: watching and helping her mother cook as a young child, as a teenage vegetarian discovering health food stores and learning to cook new recipes, in college focusing on the sociological aspects of health and our environment, working in health food stores in Dublin and Kilkenny, spending a year learning how to grow organic vegetables in The Organic Centre in Leitrim, working on an olive harvest in Italy, running a pop up vegetarian café in her living room in France, studying nutritional therapy and setting up her clinic here in Kilkenny. She loves to eat seasonally and to cook deliciously nutritious food in the shop and at home.

About Sarah

Sarah’s love of food also began at home in that same family kitchen. With a mother who loved to cook and bake, home and celebration was always filled with delicious tastes and smells. With a love of design, Sarah started out studying interior design.  Having worked in lots of different roles, she is delighted to be able to bring together her attention to detail in all things aesthetic with her love for good food. She enjoys cooking simple wholesome family meals and sourdough breads.

Food Provenance

The origins of our food is very important to us.  When sourcing, we start out as locally as possible and then look outside our little island.  With such a growing wealth of food producers in Ireland this is getting easier and more exciting as each year passes. All our farmhouse cheeses are Irish. All our vegetables and fruits are certified organic and are sourced from as locally as possible.

Our main vegetable supplier is local organic grower Sinead Cranwell who grows wonderful organic vegetables only a few kilometres from our shop.

From Callan, Eamon Wallace brings us his organic free range eggs each week and his wonderful organic apples when they are in season. Stocking seasonal vegetables and fruits means that our produce is wonderfully nutritious and tastes amazing.

Eating seasonally makes cooking and eating so much fun. We get excited about each vegetable as it comes into season – purple sprouting broccoli in spring, broad beans, tomatoes, courgettes, peas in summer, pumpkins in autumn, and the wonderful oriental brassicas that brighten our winter salad bags.

Our range of delicious wines is almost entirely organic and is entirely European; we have such great wines in Europe that avoiding further air miles is easy. Customers often try our wines initially motivated by curiosity but they keep coming back because they love them.

Animal welfare matters to us, If a product on our shelves contains egg then that egg is free range – every biscuit, cake, ice cream, mayonnaise has been checked to make sure any eggs are free range. We were thrilled when some local producers switched to using free range so that we could stock their products. We have a limited range of free range organic meat products.
